Back in the early 1990's I became deeply interested in astronomy and cosmology. I would spend  countless evenings at the university's observatory on the scopes and in the astronomy library.  However, as time passed my interest in space began to shift from scientific to philosophical. I no longer saw space as something to be measured and dissected. Instead, I saw and still see it as a beautiful mystery for me to ponder like my ancestors did before me.

Archesurfal Typer Orphan Sound System

In this track I would personally shine a spotlight on the amazing versatility, cleverness, clarity and cooperation of the drummer, percussionist and co-vocalizer, John Palumbo (who even plays a bit of clarinet on this one). Which of course is not meant to underestimate the bassology skills exemplified by John El-Manahi in this unmapped improvisational outing. I stand in my earlier nasal self to the microphone some hybrid Ken Nordine Alan Bishop or Dada Biafra reading one poem by Stephen Ellis and some lines I scribbled while on hold various times at my office-job of 1997, launching it with some half-baked ad-lib redaction of a book about Ives that El-Manahi was telling me about the night before and a reference to Charles Mingus only real-Mingus people will get. That other noise is probably the Moroccan rebab, some flutes and maybe I ruffle through my papers looking for the serpent-like beauty coiled in living syntax.
