I was playing with a band that wanted to do some old funk tunes but I wasn't in love with the songs they chose so I wrote a funk song myself. 

It wasn't a genre that I was familiar with but I had a lot of fun with it. 

The basic structure is pretty simple but getting on the beat has taken a whole year of practice. You don't think about funk - you feel it. It's a gas when you get into it.

Wildflower

Just wrote this in one quick sitting, Monday, March 28th, 2016, then recorded it that evening. So it's as new as it can be. Not sure what compelled me to get it up here so immediately, but here it is, for what it is.

Lyrics:

At night, when I'm lonely, I recall my last dream
A woman, dark, soft skin, so mesmerizing 
I knew of her love like I knew of myself
I knew it was real, like I knew nothin' else

Drive down past the old house of my old best friends
We were laughin' and walkin', and walkin' again
Was there that I learned all my life, couldn't hide
Was there I first saw a beautiful bride
And now as we're grown and we don't stay in touch
I wonder if any of 'em still stay in love

And now at the point, all the mountains spread out
The wind's same old rage, and my heart's same old doubt
I'm ready to drive out into desert skies
I'm ready to wave this old mountain goodbye
So I read in my car 'til the setting of sun
Forges its trail, and the shadows become
The night's opened wide like the hunger of God
The law of the seas by the sharp iron rod

The passionless masses, they pointed and waved
At a passing balloon, spoke a quotable phrase:
"The whole world is watching (to be trod underfoot)
The whole world is wading through the ash and the soot
You stand up too tall and you'll be hammered down
You stay down too low, you'll end up underground
The one who does win is the one who don't think
Of the world above just beginning to sink"
