The various first contacts of our past are discussed, the meeting of Jean-François de La Pérouse with the Tlingit but also the destruction of the Aztecs by the Spanish conquistadors. Dangers to civilization are highlighted, from the threat of nuclear war to the dangers that led to the destruction of the Library of Alexandria or the murder of Hypatia. The episode ends with an overview of the beginning of the universe, to the evolution of life to the achievements of humanity, and at the end makes a request to humanity to appreciate life and continue the journey into the cosmos."
