Journeys

Journeys is a mix series concept, which sees myself and a guest both deliver a 10 track warm up set and a 10 track peak time set, which are then intertwined as one comprehensive set. The concept allows guest DJs to express a personalised, diverse interpretation of trance music you’d hear both at the start and at the end of a night out at your favourite event. It also challenges me to select tracks which continue the flow of the set seamlessly and to tell a story, with the end goal of taking listeners….on a Journey. 

First up we have James Timoney. The Manchester based DJ has a self proclaimed obsession for trance classics and a love for vinyl.

A little bit about me.... 
I first started djing in the early 00's when my clubbing journey started. I spent a good few years away from the decks before refinding my love of it in the last couple of years. Most of my classics mixes are influenced from my clubbing days in Gatecrasher & Godskitchen. Rob is a multi-genre DJ based in Dublin, Ireland. He used the covid lockdown period to finally take the plunge and invest in  some DJ gear. Alongside Classic Trance he also regularly mixes Progressive and Techno.

004 sees DJ Aries take to the decks. A former clubgoer originally hailing from Leicester,  he frequented Superclubs such as Passion at The Emporium in Coalville and Godskitchen at CODE in Birmingham between 1998 - 2005. 

An amateur trance DJ in that time period utilising vinyl and CD's, DJ Aries played at various venues in the Midlands, until the mid 2000's. Now in his 50's, his love of trance music has never wained.

Since recently going full digital, he is now once again "spinning" some of his favourite tunes from a genre that took the world by storm.

We're up to 005 with the series. The guest this time is none other than Eddie Swales. Eddie Swales' passion is trance music. 2 years ago he took the plunge and took a keen interest in DJing. Eddie quickly realised from his impressive reach with his mixes and radio shows that he had discovered a raw talent and an outlet for his love for all things trance. With a substantial back catalogue of classics influenced from the Gatecrasher era of the late 90s and early 2000s, his style continues to evolve and incorporates tech trance and tracks from the modern day trance. With his sights set on entering the realms of production in the future, Eddie continues to express his love for our favourite genre via as many avenues as possible.

A word from the Mann himself;
Born in the 80s and raised on a healthy musical diet of New Wave, New Romantic, Disco & Funk,  had exposure to Electronic Music from a young age. It was the release of a Synthesizer album in 1989 that introduced me to the likes of Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis & Giorgio Moroder which cemented my interest in synth music. When Trance music burst on to the commercial scene in the late 90s I knew I had found the sound that would become my obsession for years to come.
 
Too young to hit the clubs, I collected countless CD singles and compilations and began building up my collection. Trance Nation, Clubbers Guide To Trance & “The Lizard Man” (the latter would eventually lead to a sizeable interest in Techno) were probably the stand outs. Once I was 18 I was fortunate enough to have the super club Slinky right on my door step so I would spend almost every Friday night there taking in the best DJs of the world each and every week. If I wasn’t going to Slinky then I would venture further afield and was lucky enough to experience the likes of Inside Out & Colours @ The Arches in Glasgow, Godskitchen, Cream and Gatecrasher.
 
Fast forward to 2007 and after feeling that Trance had gone a bit stale I branched out into Techno as my source for new music but still maintaining the love for all things Classic Trance. In 2019 after a couple of house moves and being able to set my decks back up, I got them serviced and went about starting a project to get me playing my vinyl collection again. “Vinyl Destination” was born and so began my quest for creating and sharing Vinyl only mixes taking in classic Trance. Anything from Progressive right through to Hard Trance. I’ve had great fun putting these together and being introduced to people along the way with a similar passion and it’s a pleasure to have been asked to make contributions for other mix projects along the way. Divine Bio:
My love for music has always been there.. It all started in the early 90s when dance music was on the rise. Music movements such as Eurodance, rave, (happy) hardcore etc. 
 
In my teen years I bought the first turntables with my brother. At that time we played many kinds of genres together. It soon became clear that this hobby was becoming too expensive for us, so we sold all DJ gear (very sorry afterwards) because we had quite an archive of vinyl at the time. We would now be on a gold mine given the current market prices haha ;) 

In the meantime, after a long period of silence around DJing, I’ve always kept an interest in it. I Recorded many mixtapes and also managed some websites and forums in which I always kept track of the releases. 

A few years ago I bought new DJ gear. Now direct drive Technics ;) SL1200mk3 and a SL1210mk2, Allen & Heath mixer and a few DJ controllers and trying to produce here and there. In addition to collecting records again, I also provide many DJ sets and I ensure that several starting DJ talents can show their sound and mixes through my Addicted To Trance page.

You can call my style very emotional, energetic and uplifting, but I also love to play progressive or melodic techno from time to time. Besides Trance Classics I also monitor the modern Trance scene.
