In the wake of their widely-acclaimed album Union, JUNO-nominated duo Èbony rematerialize on the dancefloor with the otherworldly Shades of Meridian EP, projecting a waking futurist dream haunted by echoes of Detroit techno, Chicago house, South African melodies, and the rich mythology of Ancient Toronto. 

Opener “Break My Skin explores a hidden pocket of after-hours techno space-time with an ethereal vocal by James Baley, leading into the tense, disembodied jack of “Forever.” Next, “Dull Side First” rides a spectral break through a sepulchral warehouse trip, “RIFT” invokes peak-time witchcraft, and closer “My Daylight” entrances even the most self-possessed sound-and-lighting guys to spam the smoke machine until reality itself is occluded. 

And to those who say that working with JUNO-nominated artists proves that Turbo is just a cog in the CanCon cabal, we would like to familiarize you with the facts: Canadian Tire refused to carry our 2023 Bryan Adams remix LP and we have rejected five separate demos from Justin Trudeau’s tech-house alias “Arabian Nights.” It’s called integrity — try looking it up sometime.

"Musique Pour Enfiler Des Perles" is the third EP by Poison Gauchiste, aka Eric Labbé, following "Musique Pour Faire Différentes Choses" and "Musique Pour Monter En Haut". It is the result of a slow maturation process, shaped by summer idleness and long winter evenings over the past two years. The EP features five compositions that, as always, blend quirky influences with distinctly personal oddities.

Caution: several of these tracks contain rhythms that might inspire dancing — though it’s unclear whether listeners will actually follow through, given the spells of languor and melancholy that occasionally drift onto the dancefloor...

PREMIERE : Poison Gauchiste - Sept petits pas vers nulle part

Flash Atkins has pulled together a crack team of musicians for Sanza Mibale Ya Bo Pemi. It is a tribute to the golden age of afro disco, when the sounds of 70s New York found their way to the continent and fused with local musical styles and rhythms.

Felix Ngindu sings in his native Lingala language from DRC over a locked bass, congas, keys, percussion, rhythm guitar and a brass section from Haggis Horn's Atholl Ransome and Malcolm Strachan. Funk, disco, soul and jazz all blend for a a peak time jam.

The Flash Dub strips things back to the rhythm section for heads down, dubby action and a tracky take that still packs a dance floor punch.

The incomparable Bosq steps up for remix duties and knocks it out the park. Layered drums and percussion give things a more latin swing before the beats break, piano enters the fray and it's a tropical funk party starter all the way.

The dub does the beat thing, rocking a hard groove for the dancers. Hands in the air? F**ck yeah!

Michael Mayer became obsessed with Erik Luebs, an American producer based in Osaka, after stumbling upon his independently released music on Bandcamp. Luebs’ talent for creating high-energy, minimalist acid techno with impeccable, futuristic sound design swiftly earned him a regular place in Mayer’s sets. It was only a matter of time before Luebs made his debut on Kompakt’s Speicher series with this highly versatile EP. ‘Riding the Blade’ opens the four-track EP, showcasing Luebs’ signature punchy psychedelia. ‘Scarlet Viscera’ features a sleek, minimal groove that is reminiscent of the genre’s heyday in the 2000s. ‘Transform Into Glass’ emanates blissful Detroit vibes, and the EP closes with a real bang: ‘Sucked Through Tube’ creates a frenzy on the dance floor without the need for a single kick drum. Gimme Some got remixed by Brian Ring. This Berlin based Irish guy is known for his unique style somewhere between house, disco and an euphoric touch of indie dance. With his interpretation of the original version by Jakob Mäder and JULIENT, Brian twists it into a dancefloor friendly and intelligent looped club track. Either for warmup in a cozy bar setting or a hot summer night, this one got vibes: organic disco inspired drums, looped vocal snippets and this reduced melody elements from the original Gimme Some. And of course some classic Brian Ring choir synths we all love!
