Based around an acoustic riff, the song is about how a wave can be the start, or the end of something, and maybe a chance to start again. Produced by Shael Wrinch at Stone Hill studios on Bowen Island, B.C. Chris Herbsen on vocals, Shael doing harmonies and more of that great slide guitar.

After some remixes there is now a first new song in the new year. I had to get inspiration from Cecilia again and gladly took up her open collab offers again. "We are one" is a wonderful and important message, especially in these crazy times, and the basis for peaceful and respectful coexistence. A few subtle guitar sounds and hypnotic synth sounds are the soundscape for this message.

Fun Facts:
Dancing in the Dark was originally written and performed by Alien Heat.
This song is in the key of Bm and the tempo is 131 BPM.
This is arguably the least intellectually challenging set of lyrics Pete ever wrote!
When Pete was referring to this song, he generally called it "Farting in the Park".
Richard's original keyboard riffs are actually played on guitar during the verses.
The guitar parts are played on the Ice Maiden.
In Alien Heat, this was the song where Graham played a drum solo, during which the rest of the band would roll and light cigarettes, or perhaps something a little stronger, before he brought them back in with a big drumroll.
Sven's drumming in this version is rather magnificent and he acknowledges the aforementioned drum solo with a short groovy drum break.
Josh replicated Richard's keyboard solo.
We double tracked it in the end after recording 20 or 30 takes and chose the best two because the synth just wouldn't quite behave itself.

* George had made friends with a Hungarian man called Floyd who showed him a new chord from a Portuguese sea shanty.
* The mystery chord is Bm11b5.
* It is played by holding the A and G strings on the second fret with the first and second fingers, and the D and B strings on the third fret using the third and fourth fingers, with the hi-E open and the lo-E muted.
* The other two chords in the song were A minor and E.
* When George was headhunted by the MD of the company Floyd worked for, Floyd gave him a copy of Mario Puzzo’s book The Godfather, and wrote ‘Welcome to the family!’ inside the front cover.
* Obviously this piece could have no other name.
* Welcome to the Family is in the key of A minor.
* The tempo for this tune is 98.0035 BPM.
* Emma recorded an extra part on the keys that was not used in the end.
* The Stratocaster enters to play rhythm on the second verse.
* The Ice Maiden takes the twin lead parts at the end.
* Some trombone was also planned, but there were no players around at the time, so the final mix remains without it.

A Fucked Up Lovesong

This track was written early on in the writing partnership between myself and @phoebegrace up in a small room above the ambulance depot on Tottenham Court Road. 

We had just bought Buddy Miles live from Sounds of the Universe in Soho. The version of ‘Down by the River’ seriously blew our minds. Especially the trombone solo. 

Booked in to record in Cambridge the following week with an old friend of mine, Will Walter. We played a live session - freely. 

That was in 2017. Since, the session has sat quietly on my hard drive, shown to friends and family. The track has morphed into a more complex piece and the final and happy addition was a saxophone recording by Laura Misch. 

We had met in a sunny pub garden in Sussex. I remember that I smashed a pot hole that afternoon and turned up late with a replacement wheel... very rockstar. 

She was very gracious and showed an interest in my music and recorded a piece that was immediately recognisable as her. I’m lucky to have it. 

It’s influenced by that Buddy Miles record, nods to THE Neil Young solo that was the first I mastered on guitar (not saying much). That’s a tall claim but I’m standing on their shoulders. 

I hope you enjoy the track. I’ve had it up my sleeves for years now and I am excited to let it go and fly. Please #share FLARES.

MUSICIANS THAT HAVE A DIFFERENT ATTITUDE TO THE REST, TEND TO MAKE MUSIC THAT IS DIFFERENT TO THE REST!
It is common practice for musicians to click the like button on #Soundcloud without ever listening to the tune! There is no proof it was listened to, so it's impossible to know who genuinely likes a track! Only actual #feedback proves it's been heard!

I use to follow musicians back that clicked the like button, but it becomes very obvious that only 10% actually listen, when you receive five times as many likes as listens. This has made me extremely wary about being the first to leave feedback, and that kind of wariness spreads like wildfire!

Because of this, I only follow musicians back that leave feedback, or share one of my posts; and I will only leave feedback once if the favor isn't returned. it is better to keep searching for musicians who have enough #class and #humility to return the #respect!

#Musicians that have those qualities clearly have depth, creating tunes for the love of it, rather than simple to fuel their own ego, and fatten their bank accounts!
