An artist synonymous with Drum and Bass, Ed Rush has become a byword for cutting edge, forward thinking
beats. Moving through the sounds of hip hop and electro in his early musical years, Ed Rush soon became
interested in the emerging London jungle scene.
Showing his innate ability to manipulate chopped breakbeats and piles of sub-low bass, it wasn't long before Ed
Rush and Nico dropped the huge 'Bludclot Artattack'. The first classic to Ed Rush’s name, this proved to be a
platform for another collaboration with DJ Trace. Simultaneously developing his own style whilst pushing the
boundaries of a genre, classics such as ‘The Mutant' and 'Guncheck' put Ed Rush’s attitude injected productions
firmly on the map.
One of the pioneers of new sound dubbed Techstep, Ed Rush soon teamed up within another leading light,
Optical; to form what would become one of the most progressive production teams in the scene. In 1998, Ed
Rush & Optical released an album universally recognized as changing the landscape of Drum and Bass forever
with the legendary, ‘Wormhole’ on Virus Recordings. Still regarded as one of the main catalysts for the Neuro and
Techstep sound, ‘Wormhole’ paved the way for household names such as Noisia, Bad Company and many more.
Since then Ed Rush has released a plethora of genre-defining tracks and albums, both solo and with his partner in
crime, Optical. Still busy at work on a new Ed Rush & Optical LP due in late 2013, Ed Rush is not merely content
with helping shape the scene and remaining one of its most consistent producers. Beginning his own venture, he
now looks to the future with the birth of Piranha Pool. An outlet for showcasing new talent and veterans alike,
Piranha Pool represents what will be the future of Drum and Bass.

It’s said that DJing is a job that needs no qualifications, but experience always shows. Eddie Richards, ‘Britain’s Godfather of House and Techno’(Mixmag), embodies this like no-one else. While many of his peers have faded into irrelevance or bloated into mainstream mediocrity, Eddie has remained at the forefront of cutting edge underground dance music, Often regarded as ‘the DJs DJ’, Eddie’s insatiable appetite for new music has meant he’s always one step ahead of the game, as his relentless schedule of gigs, remixes and original productions proves. The world of dance music may change with bewildering speed, but one thing remains constant: somewhere, Eddie Richards will be rocking the party.

PORTABLE MINDS

Headed up by ascending artist Jody Barr, Portable Minds is an independent imprint that aims to operate outside of the constraints of close-mindedness. The intention set by Barr is for the platform to allow both himself and his peers to express themselves freely without having to compromise their productions and the output will predominantly take the shape of single-artist EPs that showcase the more daring and unique facets of participants studio skills. 

Having been inaugurated by Barr himself with his ‘Culture Vulture’ EP - a release that caught the attention of producers such as Jamie Jones, XXXy, Laurent Garnier and Groove Armada - upcoming releases will eventually bring more into the fold. All bringing with them the same degree balance of intrigue and power, EPs will be largely focused towards the dance floor although the experimental streak running through the project will no doubt result in some records falling left-of-centre.

Music soothes the soul, and the savage beast. Orpheus mystifies creatures and trees, changing the course of rivers, outplaying the Sirens’ song with his lyre. Radha and Krishna play the flute and dance jubilantly.”

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
