For the 60th edition of the Mosaic Mix Series we head to Nantes and the sounds of Lou Berlinger’s Slow Dimension Project.

Describing the project as the ‘combination between the shades and opacity of dark techno sounds with light dubby echoed and filtered chords’ Lou has been spinning her minimal and deep dub sound for over ten years and has recently signed her debut release as Slow Dimension on Apnea Records.

Mosaic Mix Series 060_Slow Dimension

@octalindustries is the solo project of Jónas Thor Gudmundsson. The project was originally founded in 2003 by Jonas and Mike Sickinger, the founder of the Octal label. The debut release of their collaboration was the Automatik EP on the Transistor Rhythm output. Couple of years later they joined their friend Deep Chord for a shared 12“ release, which today is a quite a valuable gem for dub techno lovers. The three of them joined hands together later that year to create a 3x12“ release undir the pseudonym Spectral Network. The release was quite limited (111 copies) and was considered one of the most interesting 12“ releases that year by many critics. 
After the release of the Spectral Network eps the duo went for hiatus as other projects took over, also as opportunity for musical collaborations became harder as the Atlantic Ocean divides them. Jonas continued working on other projects as @ruxpin – producing numerous releases along the way. 
In 2011 the duo was asked by the French independent label @entropy-records to do some releases. As Michael was unable to participate, Jonas went on solo and worked on a full-length release, which later became Meeting of the Waves LP. Another remix followed for G.R.I.T. which was hailed by dubtechnoblog.com as the best remix of the year 2012.   
In more recent years, Octal Industries has been working on numerous collaborations with artists such as fellow Icelander @ohm-599575574 - and fruits of their work has been released on labels such as @thule-records, Rawax, @luckofaccess, @allinnrecords and many more. 
Octal Industries also released works independently in 2019 an EP entitled Julia Sets on @kontaktrecordscph, which featured a remix from the Detroit legend @mikehuckaby – and his second full-length album Our Seasons, which was released on Vertex in December 2019. 
Octal Industries, although being Icelandic in origin, works and resides in Tallinn, Estonia.

We are very excited to share our fourteenth edition of the Equilibrisme Podcast Series. This time we proudly present you : Luke Hess. 

Born in 1980 in Metro Detroit and subject to the city's mid-90's warehouse parties, Luke Hess has harnessed a deep appreciation for electronic music and the expression of the underground movement. 

His background in mathematics and engineering has given him a scientific approach to the dance-floor, using frequencies, tones, and soundscapes to transform surroundings and mood.

Luke's faith based music production landed him a seat with Omar S' FXHE label & Carl Craig's Planet-e label in Detroit. Hess has celebrated original productions and remix material on labels such as DeepLabs, FXHE, Planet-e, Motech, Beretta Grey, Echocord, Kontra-Music, Modelisme, Ornaments, Echocord Colour, & more. 

In 2009, Luke released his first album, "Light in the Dark" on Denmark-based record label, Echocord. "Light in the Dark" received glowing reviews and was hailed by many as one of the best deep techno albums of the year.

With 15 years of DJ experience and many notable LIVE sets across the world, Luke is regarded as a perfectionist on stage. Hess is known to layer his sets in a very detailed, hypnotic, & soulful manner. 
After playing many notable venues & festivals such as Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Berghain & Panorama Bar - Berlin, Fabric - London, Unit - Tokyo, Culture Box - Copenhagen, Bunker - NYC, Decibel Festival - Seattle, Basement - Hong Kong, etc., he is excited to continue exploring the world stage and introducing new and old fans to his raw & deep breed of Detroit techno.

Luke's continued hard work in the studio & behind the decks combined with his unyielding interest in technology and sound will no doubt stimulate the boundaries of electronic music.

We have been following Luke since 2009 and are very happy to have him onboard for our Equilibrisme Podcast Series. Luke also contributed a track for our recent vinyl release “Kraken EP”.

Joining me this month for episode 49 is Canadian producer and live performer Mathew Jonson. Initially from the west coast of Canada and now based in Berlin, Mathew’s upbringing in electronic music started in the nineties with the jazz-meets-techno live band Cobblestone Jazz. Collaboration and improvisation continue to play key parts in Mathew’s music career, extending to inform his creative process, his solo work, and his techniques as a live performer.

With this in mind, he created the Freedom Engine Academy, a music school offering intensive courses around electronic music production, music theory, and creativity taught by a roster of talented musicians and Mathew himself. In this episode, we’re discussing collaborative learning, and how the group experience can make music better.

The Big Bang happened in 2005 when Aleksandr aka @grad_u, a Vilnius-based DJ and producer who had been focused on drum’n’bass, accidentally heard Prospect II by Fluxion. It wasn’t the first time he heard the track but, at the right time and the right place, or, more accurately, the right depth, it pushed the artist to aim for fresh and dubby vibes and sounds. As the deal was done for the first release, the gradient of function U that Aleksandr studied at the moment gently became @grad_u. The gradient demonstrates the direction of increase of the function, so, consistently, it also paved the path of grad_u’s musical journey. But enough about maths. The sound of grad_u levitates in the golden middle between the ancient woods and the everyday asphalt jungle. The purity of these soundscapes is usually predetermined by recording the tracks on the tape, and inside these tapes, the producer encrypts both his family, everyday life, philosophical thoughts, space explorations, and some wild fantasies of how it all would sound live through a proper sound system. After a few successful releases on Knowone, grad_u was determined to launch a vinyl-only label himself. That’s how Redscale was born, and, since its first release in 2012, the catalogue has already reached the number RDSCL09. Grad_u produces all of the tracks released on Redscale. The producer also collaborates with likeminded imprints, Irenic being the latest (as of 2019) example of the dubby and timeless friendship. Having formed strong yet subtle muscles by performing live and DJ sets in various clubs and festivals in #Lithuania and nearby countries, for the past few years grad_u can in all sincerity be called an international artist. In the recent months, he has performed in cities like #Kyiv, #Helsinki, #Budapest, #Beijing, or #Tehran and travels are planned for the future. The faraway locations, unlike surroundings and new people met on the road have transformed into creative influences. The busy schedule of the artist hasn’t managed to keep him away from the studio and label errands; a few releases are now lined up to be listened in bedrooms and beyond.
