man, I'm blown away by this piece. I'd have been impressed if you'd have strung it together on a computer. but putting these all together on tape is amazing.

This is probably one of the coolest background stories I've ever read on a song. Such an inspirational source (and amazing find) for our sample-driven musical world. Very cool, Jacob.

The soundscape is wonderfully atmospheric, and does a great job keeping the recording as the main focus. Based on your write-up, I'd say you were very successful on this one. :)

Recently, at a flea market, I bought an old micro-cassette-recorder. It still contained the original tape of the last recording made 30 years before. Voice recordings of a railway engineer inspecting and controlling tracks somewhere in former GDR, shortly after the reunification. He recorded what needed to be done at certain parts of the route, the exact location and who accompanied him. Even though, this must have been daily working routine for him, I was immediately touched by his voice, the monotone enumerations and the sounds of the recorder being turned on and off. Considering the historical circumstances, this has a strangely melancholic atmosphere, which inspired me to turn this into music. 
With the tape having so much expressivity, I realized, the musical background has to be as unpretentious as possible. - I hope, I did it right. And I hope, the track I made from this, shows my respect for that man, who unknowingly spoke to me from the past.
