Temple Rat, the musical alias of the artist hailing from Chengdu, Mei Yuxin, has unveiled her highly anticipated debut EP, 'Composition of Air,' a captivating exploration of ambient and tribal experimental sounds released under the esteemed Thai record label Siamese Twins. Among these gems, 'Dreaming of Electric Sheep' is a mesmerizing piece that transports listeners to a misty early morning at a train station.

'Dreaming of Electric Sheep' begins with an air of mystique, as if a ghost train has arrived to pick up passengers from the station. The atmosphere is palpable, enveloping the listener in a hazy ambiance. As the track progresses, a captivating and beautiful melody emerges, like rays of sunlight filtering through train windows. The melody illuminates the journey, guiding us deeper into Temple Rat's sonic landscape.

Temple Rat masterfully employs a low kick drum, reverberating subtly in the background, resembling a heartbeat that pulses throughout the entire track. The rhythm serves as a steady foundation, guiding the listener along the sonic railway. In the latter part of the song, an arpeggiated melody slowly fades in, evoking a sense of anticipation and excitement akin to arriving at a desirable destination. The feel-good vibes this melodic element creates are infectious, leaving the listener with a warm and uplifting sensation.

With 'Composition of Air' marking her debut EP, Mei Yuxin showcases her unique artistic vision and talent for blending tribal elements with experimental soundscapes. Released today, May 30, via Siamese Twins, this EP promises to transport listeners to unexplored musical realms.

Water
As a scorpio with pisces rising, both of my signs are water elements, which are often associated with emotional depth and intuition. People with water signs are known for their ability to connect deeply with their subconscious, relying on instincts to guide their decisions. They’re also sensitive and protective. 
This may explain my profound connection to music and art as well as caring for people I love.

I also enjoy the mysticism of autumn through the cultural and religious festivities celebrated during this transitional time of the year.

**Tell us about the mix you've recorded for us.**

I put this mix together on a very snowy Saturday night in February, where everything outside was blanketed in white and it just kept coming down for hours. The view from my window was beautiful, and that cozy, surreal stillness definitely inspired the direction of the mix. Since I was posted up at home, I decided to go for a slower, more laid-back set that featured some of my favorite styles and sound palettes. We’re cooking low and slow here—downtempo sluggers, lush atmospheres, and staggered rhythms that drift behind and around the beat. It moves through different zones, starting mellow and hazy, building toward tripped-out house, minimal and dubby textures.

**Can you walk us through your creative process when approaching this mix?**

I wanted the mix to feel like it matched the color and mood of that snowy night—shades of purple, blue, and white. The idea was to explore the more psychedelic, melodic, and slightly off-kilter sides of downtempo and experimental club sounds. I started by gathering some of my favorite tracks in this realm and loosely organizing them by tempo. Then I hit record and just jammed, gradually increasing the tempo as the mix progressed. There are a few rough edges in there, but I chose not to re-record it. You can hear “me” in there. Definitely not AI ;)
