Btw, that´s me in that photo.
I was a rather weird kid, listened to Spike Jones, Benny Goodman, fifties rock´n´ roll and my father´s jazz record collection (O.  Peterson, Bird, C. Brown, W. Montgomery etc.)
 Later I discovered Psychedelia, New wave/Punk, Japanese noise (especially C.C.C.C.), 60-70s rock classics, Debussy&Messiaen, Dub reggae, Prog (Gabriel era Genesis, Van der Graaf Generator....), vintage Beninese stuff (Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou, Gnonnas Pedro  and so on), UK Freakbeat, out-there Jazz, Bowie/Floyd bootlegs, J. Zorn, early 90s Indie, F. Zappa, antique French Pop (Dutronc, Laforet...), U. Srinivas plus labels like Delerium Records, Shimmy Disc, Japan Overseas (Osaka), RecRec music and God knows what.
Additionally, I should mention that my all time favorite Finnish album is Sperm "Shh! Heinäsirkat". Check it out!
Various literary and "cinematic" influences have molded my music.  The more predictable stuff like Surrealism, Dada, Situationism, Beats (mainly W. Burroughs) of course, but I have also been influenced by the old-school Finnish Radio Drama, Beninese "traditions", the ramblings/books by P .Levenda, Megalithic Structures&Art, the humor of H.S. Thompson, 70s-80s Eastern European Animation, Yakuza films and by the cult movies re-released by Blue Underground, Something Weird Videos, Mondo Macabro, Arrow Films and so forth. Pretty far-out stuff that could destroy your mind permanently?
 And nope, my photo is not from the 50s or from the 60´s (It was taken around 358 BC, hahaha).

After a long break without writing songs, I finally come back with a motive that has always fascinated me: The interplay between humans and the surrounding landscapes. Being a gardener myself I am in close contact with nature all the time, and I see my work as an constant exchange with plants, rocks, trees and my feelings. Maybe you can hear the landscapes in between the lines as well...

Last night I visited the space that was offered by a single term

Da hatte sich der liebe Andreas auf seiner Karnevalsflucht in die schönen Ardennen so schön erholt - um gleich nach seiner Rückkehr in den totalen Arbeitsstress zurückzufallen! Denn in seinem Labor werden in diesen Tagen neue Geräte installiert und das nimmt ziemlich viel Zeit in Anspruch. Zeit, die leider fehlt, um diese 410. Episode von "XtraChill" in gewohnter Form zu produzieren. Damit das übliche Veröffentlichungsdatum heute, am 01. März 2024, eingehalten werden kann, wird die Musikauswahl im Stil der "XL-Specials" präsentiert. Vor jedem Titel erfahrt ihr, wen und was ihr hört - insgesamt also weniger Gequatsche. Manche wird's freuen! Alle anderen dürfen auf die kommende Ausgabe hoffen, wenn der liebe Andreas beruflich hoffentlich nicht mehr so stark eingespannt ist!

Dear Andreas had recovered so beautifully on his carnival escape to the beautiful Ardennes - only to fall back into total work stress immediately after his return! Because new equipment is being installed in his laboratory these days and that takes a lot of time. There is unfortunately no time to produce this 410th episode of "XtraChill" in the usual form. In order to meet the usual release date today, on March 1st, 2024, the music selection will be presented in the style of the “XL specials”. Before each track you'll find out who and what you're listening to - so less chatter overall. Some people will be happy! Everyone else can hope for the next issue, when dear Andreas is hopefully no longer so busy with his job!

SLEEPY JANE - Lord Will...

Simon McCorry is a composer based in Gloucestershire creating music and sound design mainly for theatre and contemporary dance, working with companies such as Old Vic Productions, Tiata Fahodzi, House of Absolute, Javaad Alipoor Company & Fabula Collective. Simon is a cellist, often using the instrument in his work processed and combined with electronics, field recordings, and other instruments. His work has been described as “electro-orchestral drone-scapes of, by turns, gauzy intimacy and soaring grandeur” MOJO. He has recently collaborated with artists including Andrew Heath, anthéne, Requiem and, on this record, Wodwo.Wodwo is the alias of Derbyshire-based musician Ray Robinson.

An award-winning novelist and coveted screenwriter, Robinson's foray into the music world began in 2018, and his gentle ambient guitar and lush neo-classical compositions have quickly attracted a blossoming legion of fans. Ray also records as one half of JARR, alongside fellow Brit, Jon Attwood (Yellow6). Their albums have been released by Hush Hush Records and on the Sound in Silence imprint. Ray's solo output has appeared on NCTMMRN, Soundtracking The Void, Submarine Broadcasting Company and Fallow.

Every Creeping Thing is a celebration of mud and moss and slugs and bugs and roots and damp – songs of the forgotten, the small, the overlooked. A musical approach of letting things unfold and follow their path, passing material back and forth, leaving space and following a philosophy of less is more. A journey that evolved through coincidences, and shared interests in literature and the natural world – the music took its course, taking on its own life. 
 
Guitar, cello, and modular synth are played, processed, and recorded live. Nothing is sequenced or quantised, maintaining an organic breath-like quality flowing throughout the tracks. Through the music’s echoes, whisperings, creeks, calls, fluttering and murmurings – sometimes as walls of sound, often as spiderweb-fine textures – Every Creeping Thing invites the listener to immerse themselves in the intricate net of the beauty of the more-than-human world.

The cover art illustrates John Masefield's lines from The Everlasting Mercy: ‘A rushing comet, crackling, numbing the folk with fear of judgement coming.’ Taken from their collection, The Book of Comets, the artists Christopher Crouch and Cherish Marrington worked together to create something that would be a synthesis of their practices, but which would also propel them into new ways of thinking about representing their ideas. However, these illustrations are less about comets and more about the artists’ retreat into the imaginary.

The track titles for Every Creeping Thing are from Jacob Polley’s wonderful poetry collection, Jackself, which Ray happened to be reading at the time of this collaboration. As the album was coming together, he felt a real connection between the sometimes off-kilter, ‘organic’ music he and Simon were creating and Jacob’s collection. It felt as if they were inhabiting similar worlds: a world of frosty mornings, kidney-coloured pools, rosehips, and buzzards’ wings.

Ihes egin is a verb in basque language that literally means "to do the escape". Therefore, it implies an action, not a process. An action you're comitted to. There's no chance of going back, it's visceral, it's an impiulse born in the guts. And often, it does not end well.
