Sticky sweet with just a hint of a bite. This deceptively poppy track is wrapped in liquid guitars, a bouncy bass line, and a sugar-rush chorus that hits just right. While the guitar and bass engage in a little playful call and response, the lyrics unravel the feeling of being stuck in a world that’s all gloss, and no substance. Delicious but suffocating. Shiny, sweet, and warped—like candy melting in the sun.

This few lines of text in this tune come from the novel The pit and the pendulum, written by Edgar Allan Poe.
Was it a plan to make music with this text? No, absolutely not. I wanted some text on the music I was making, but I did not have any lyrics yet. The first thing I saw on my desk was the Selected Writings Pinguin Pocket by Edgar Allen Poe. I used the text on the page where it fell open; page 262 in the 1977 edition. The plan was to make some lyrics for it later, but I stopped working on this, so I didn't. But now, after a few years, I think, why not call it a song the way it is. So here it is, ready for the world, I hope you like it.

With the fall of the Assad regime, Syria is once again thrust into the international spotlight as new leadership takes hold promising much while its citizens took to the streets celebrating the ousting of Assad and now wait hopefully for positive change.  The country has been in a civil war of unspeakable cruelty since 2011. The swift changes have been on Peter's heart through the holiday season. It is a country, a land, and a culture that is deeply rooted in history going back over 10 millennia.  In many ways it is a cradle of Western civilization but its people are at a contemporary crossroads wanting what we have; peace, prosperity, civility, and freedom to determine their destiny as a nation.  This song addresses that hope, the first release of the year for our little international ensemble.

Hey… glad you dropped by. Gonna get real cold here, and I have a bit of snow shoveling to finish before the cold snap, so this is a short song. More an exploration of ideas than a song, as I fumble about with music. Maybe the season? Or my age? Or life in general? Or my dreams at night about my life? Whatever it may be, I am certainly wondering about where I am right now, how I got here, what I am doing here, and where I might be headed, if anywhere in particular. Sometimes I catch little glimpses of the essence of all this. I am an old man now. Maybe this comes with the territory? I stumble about through these days, especially if I don’t watch where I am going. I’ve lived through far too many wars, too much collective global hatred and violence, and witnessed outright cruelty. That has made it more difficult to live on this planet, as time passes. I’ve also found myself lost in the beauty of this world, fascinated by everything around me. It is as if time becomes irrelevant, as everything just happens. Everywhere I turn I am amazed and grateful to be alive. I don’t want to miss a thing. We live, we die, we laugh, we cry. that I submitted to the 2025 NPR Tiny Desk Contest.
This was a bit of an experiment. The audio was recorded using an iPhone 16 and then I used the Logic Pro stem spitter to separate the vocals and guitar so I could mix each track separately.
I still intend to have one more go at recording this using a better mic set up.

Our first attempt at a folk-rock epic. This was a lot of fun to write and record - it represents the warm front where our musical influences and what we individually bring to songwriting meet straight down the middle.

It's Not Funny

This song began as one of Joe's catchy, lyrically centered songs, which he wrote on his acoustic guitar, and filled in with VST instruments. He came up with the lyrics by sharing ideas with fellow SoundCloud musician Michele Ansani, who began the thought process of a song about becoming a musician.
Knowing that Josh is a fan of his work, Joe offered this song to him in hopes that he'd share it with the rest of the band. Of course, Josh jumped at the opportunity to work on his song, and immediately shared it with the rest of the group.
Ken went to work first, adding his driving, excting drums. Josh was having a hard time coming up with a good bass line for it, until Ken suggested that he use the power of the 1/8 note to propel it. Tez was up next with his clever fills you hear throughout the first half of the song. Stephen came along right after and matched Tez's energy for the guitar fills in the second half of the song.
It was still missing a solo in the designated spot, though, so Mark stepped up with his innovative piano solo you hear in the middle. If it sounds a little mechanical, that's because he's using an arpeggiator to achieve the effect. We thought it sounded good in a song about AI, though.
Once all the parts were dialed in, and Joe had gotten all his vocals tuned up, we asked one of our resident pros, Stephen, to mix it for us. He did that and mastered it, too, expertly, as always.
This is the first song we've ever done with Joe, and don't expect it to be the last. We all really enjoyed putting together, in no small part because Joe is such a competent, receptive, and gracious collaborator. We all hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it.

And people will think your songs are great even though you didn’t write or play a single note.

I was still using the plectrum and sometimes I got the chords wrong
at thirty I finally wrote what I thought was a decent song
